A Bounty Of Dodecahedra
I had ordered a little pile of Rhombic Dodecahedra from Shapeways. I love 3D printing and I love to play with physical things rather than simply perform abstract geometry in my head or with 3D computer graphics. Something very visceral (probably literally, lol) about handling these things and stacking them and just looking at how weird they look. Kind of like shape shifters. Eery, frankly.
Anyways, they came racked and stacked like some rack of herbs that have been dried or hunting trophies. Just hillarious.
They’re not too big and I’ll need to either glue them together or find some clever way to double tape them or something crafty. We’ll see. I have some other prints coming, such as a nice 12 around 1 so who knows. Will likely just use glue for some arrangements I’ll ponder.
Again, I must emphasize how shape shifting these things are. It’s just comically hilarious and you swear you’re holding a hypercube between your fingers. Fun!
In any event, have been reading and kind of chuckling at how effing trivial the cartesian ←→ b.c.c coordinates transform is. I get an analytical plane and a distance function. I’m enthralled.
But apparently waaaay too lazy to do an actually nice photoshop job on me pondering the rhombic orb.
